FAQ

Are donations tax deductible?

Absolutely! All donations are 100% tax deductible.

How much of my donation will go towards helping families in need?

Friends of NICU is an approved 501 C 3 non-profit organization which means 100% of your donation goes towards helping families.

Who receives assistance?

All families that come through the doors of Mercy San Juan's NICU and Sacramento Methodist's NICU are eligible to receive assistance. However, we work closely with the case workers to ensure that those families who need it most are cared for first

What does NICU stand for?

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a specialized ward of the hospital that cares for newborn infants with intensive medical needs

How many babies spend time in the NICU?

A recent study conducted by the National Institutes of Health found that the number of babies who are born premature (at less than 37 weeks gestation) has risen to 12.5% of all live births in the U.S. Prior to the 1950's, less than half of these premature infants survived. That number now approaches 95% and the vast majority of those babies will need care in the NICU. The more premature an infant is born, the more likely he or she is to spend a significant amount of time in the hospital.
